Making a Difference
Foster care is when a child or young person is unable to remain living at home with their families, due to experiencing abuse or neglect. In this instance, children are placed in the care of trained and approved caregivers. Becoming a Foundations Care carer is about opening up your home and hearts to provide a safe and nurturing environment for children when they need it, with the aim, where possible of reuniting children with their families.

The main way to make a difference is to become a foster carer – with different options available, foster care will fit into any life style. For those not ready to start their foster care journey, you can support foster families in your community or reach out to organisations that assist children in foster care.
Foundations Care is a not for profit organisation that has been deeply committed to a single purpose for more than two decades. Ensuring the core needs of children and young people to feel safe, accepted, and valued within their family and community are realised.
All foster carers must complete mandatory training to become a foster carer. This training is part of the initial process to becoming an approved foster carer. After approval, Foundations Care also provides access to ongoing training and education and offer access to specialised training. Foster carers also may need to complete further mandatory training if legislation requires.
Foster and kinship carers receive a tax-free allowance to support the needs of the children in their care. The carers allowance is designed to cover the day to day costs of caring for a child. Rates of allowance will vary depending on your state or territory, the needs of the child and the number of children in your family group.
